Viewer Highlighting

Highlighting settings explained, difference between Field Highlighting, Settings for Validators and Power Users

The Document Viewer can highlight key information in a document—such as extracted values like addresses, tables, and fields—as well as other important elements like recognition tokens and barcodes. This helps with both validation and configuration by providing a fast, visual way to spot critical data and understand how the system interprets the document.

Field Highlighting

The Document Viewer supports three different styles of highlighting to suit various types of data:

  • Grouped Fields
Used for related fields that typically appear close together, such as addresses or monetary amounts. These are highlighted with a single frame surrounding the entire group, making it easy to see them as a unit.

  • Individual Fields
Ideal for scattered fields like “General Information” or “Header Data” that appear in different parts of the document. Each field is highlighted separately, without a shared frame, allowing for precise review.

  • Tables
When highlighting table data, each row is framed individually. This helps clearly distinguish the structure of the table and makes row-by-row validation simple and intuitive.

Fields can optionally be individually color-coded to distinguish different types of data or extraction logic at a glance. This is especially useful for Tables.

Everything

This setting controls how much information is highlighted in the Viewer. Depending on which field is currently active in Validation and whether this option is enabled, the Viewer will either highlight all fields in the document or only the fields in the active section. Fields in the active section are always highlighted more prominently than those in non-active sections, helping you focus on what matters most.

Line

The Line setting controls whether a visual line is shown connecting the scrollbar to the currently active field. This helps orient you within the document by showing exactly where the active field is located.

Depending on the type of section, the line may:

  1. Point to a single field,

  2. Connect to a group of fields or a row in a table,

  3. Extend to the top or bottom of the Viewer if the field is currently out of view.

The scrollbar also shows a preview of the field’s position and size within the document. You can click directly on this preview to quickly jump to the corresponding section in the Viewer.

Advanced Settings

The following settings are designed to help power users and configurators analyze documents in greater detail, offering high-contrast views, recognition insights, and layout assistance for precision work.

Aggressive

The Aggressive setting enables high-contrast highlighting in the Viewer. When turned on, fields are displayed with bolder borders and brighter colors to make them stand out more clearly—especially useful in documents with complex layouts or low visual contrast.

This mode is great for validation or debugging scenarios where maximum visibility of extracted values is needed.

Recognition

The Recognition setting displays all detected recognition tokens on the document, including OCR tokens (text recognized by the OCR engine) and barcode values. When enabled, it gives a detailed view of what the system "sees" on the page.

This is especially helpful for debugging recognition issues or verifying that important content—like small text or barcodes—was successfully detected.

Grid

The Grid setting overlays a percentage-based grid onto the document. This grid divides the page into a series of equal sections, allowing you to visually assess the alignment and positioning of content. It’s especially useful for spotting misalignments or ensuring that fields are correctly placed within the document layout and get a feeling for our percentage based coordinates.
